Getting to the Moroccan surf coast

Flights, airports, transfers and the open-jaw trick that saves a day

Which airport

Agadir for the coast, Marrakech for a desert finish

AirportCodeTo the surf villagesUse it when
Agadir Al MassiraAGA35 km · 25–40 minAny coast-based trip. The obvious choice
Marrakech MenaraRAK255 km · 3–3.5 hrsWhere trips with a desert leg usually end. Fly home from here
Essaouira MogadorESU175 km · 2.5 hrsOccasionally cheaper from some European cities

Because a surf-and-desert week starts on the coast and finishes in Marrakech, an open-jaw ticket — into Agadir, out of Marrakech — is usually cheaper than two one-way fares and removes an entire wasted transfer day.

Getting from the airport

Pre-booked transfer

What most guests use. €25–35 per car each way, which splits well between people on the same flight. Your driver waits in arrivals, which matters on a two-in-the-morning budget landing. Give the camp your flight number and they arrange it.

Airport taxi

Available on arrival and priced accordingly. Agree the fare before you get in rather than after. Expect a firmer negotiation than you may be used to.

Public transport

Cheapest and slowest — a bus into Agadir, then a local bus or shared taxi north. A few euros and a couple of hours with luggage. Fine if you travel light and are not in a hurry.

Car hire

Only worth it if you plan to chase swell independently. Coast roads are good and driving is easy, but if your camp includes daily spot transfers the car mostly sits parked.

Arrive a day early

The cheapest insurance in travel

A delayed flight should not cost you a surf day, and on trips with a fixed inland departure it can cost considerably more than that. A night in Agadir before your trip starts is inexpensive and removes the risk entirely.

It also gives you time to draw dirhams and pick up a local SIM without a group waiting for you in a minibus.

Waves, prices and new camps, once a month

One email a month: what is working on the coast, what it costs, and the listings that just went live. No more than that, and you can leave in one click.

We send the confirmation link first, so nobody can add your address but you.
