Every camp on this coast shows five-star quotes. What is worth knowing is who is allowed to write a review here at all, and what happens to the unflattering ones.
Only a completed booking can be reviewed
A review can only be written against a booking made through this site that the supplier has marked as completed. There is no way to review a stay that did not happen, and no way to buy a rating.
The trade-off is visible everywhere on the site: a listing with no reviews yet shows no score at all rather than a flattering placeholder. New suppliers start empty, and that is the honest state of things rather than a gap to be filled in.
What neither side can do
A supplier cannot edit, hide or remove a review of its own listing, and cannot pay to have one taken down or to rank above a better-reviewed competitor.
The platform removes a review only when it is not about the experience delivered — abuse, a mistaken listing, personal details. A review is never removed for being unfavourable, which is the only rule that makes the rest of them worth reading.
How to read any camp's reviews
Sort by newest rather than by rating. A strong average built over several years can hide a recent decline, and a change of ownership or head coach shows up in the recent reviews long before it shows up in the average.
Read the three-star reviews first. They are almost always the most informative, because the writer had a genuinely mixed experience and took the trouble to explain why.
Look for detail that could only come from having been there: the name of an instructor, a specific beach, a particular meal. Reviews that praise everything in general terms tell you nothing.
What guests tend to write about
Across surf camps on this coast the recurring themes are consistent: the group you end up with, the food, and whether the camp drove to the right spot for the conditions rather than the nearest one.
On trips with a desert leg it is almost always the night sky and the sunrise, in that order — and the length of the driving days, which is why listings state the hours segment by segment.
Leaving one
After a completed stay you can review the supplier you booked. Honest criticism is more useful to the next traveller than a five-star with no detail, and more useful to the supplier than either.
