La Source is named for the freshwater spring that reaches the ocean here. It is a real step up in intensity from the beach breaks, and considerably less chaotic than Anchor.
The wave
A short, punchy right-hander over reef delivering cleaner, harder walls than the sandy spots to the south. The take-off is steep, it barrels occasionally, and the sections line up in a way that invites committed surfing rather than cruising.
This is a confident-intermediate wave and upward. It is not the gentle option some listings imply — the reef and the steep drop are real.
Where it sits
On the run of reef between Panoramas and Anchor Point, close to Mysteries, on the stretch that continues north to Killers. Sources place it within a few hundred metres of Anchor, and on a good day it offers comparable quality with a fraction of the crowd pressure.
The entry
Rock reef with a boulder entry. Watch where local surfers get in rather than picking your own line across the rocks — there is a sensible channel and it saves both your feet and your board.
How it fits a learning week
It suits surfers who have found Devil's Rock comfortable and want a proper reef wave without the crowd and consequence of Anchor. If you have never surfed over reef, this is not where you start.
