An hour inland from the coast, the Tamraght river has cut a gorge through pink rock and left a chain of deep pools behind it. Paradise Valley is the standard afternoon escape from the surf villages, and it earns the name on the right day.

Itinerary
Morning — The Imouzzer road
Pickup after breakfast and inland along the road towards Imouzzer des Ida Outanane. The route climbs quickly out of the coastal plain through argan groves — the trees are endemic to this corner of Morocco and nowhere else on earth, and you will see goats standing in them, which is not a trick for tourists.
We stop at a women's argan cooperative on the way. These cooperatives process the nuts by hand and were among the first in Morocco to put the income directly into women's hands. You can watch the cracking and pressing, taste amlou, and buy oil at a fraction of what it costs at home. Nobody will pressure you.
Midday — Into the gorge
From the parking area it is roughly twenty minutes on foot to the good pools, over uneven rock. This is the part nobody warns you about — flip-flops make it a bad twenty minutes and trainers make it easy. Bring shoes you can walk in.
The further you walk, the fewer people you share the water with. Most visitors stop at the first pool they reach. We keep going, because the pools deeper in the valley are quieter, deeper and considerably more impressive.
The water is mountain-fed and genuinely cold on first entry, then perfect. There are ledges to sit on, palm shade and, on most days, kingfishers.
Afternoon — Jumping, lunch and back
Cliff jumps run from a modest step off a ledge to genuinely committing drops. We only jump where a local guide has checked the depth that day, and never as the first person in — rock levels shift between seasons and the water is not always where it was last summer.
Lunch is tagine and salad at a valley café above the water, or a picnic if you would rather stay in. Then the drive back down the gorge road, arriving on the coast in time for a sunset session if the surf is working.

You pay €5 online to secure the booking. The remaining €30 is paid directly to the operator on arrival.
FAQ
Is there always water in the pools?
No, and anybody who promises otherwise is selling. Levels are highest from late winter through spring and drop through a dry summer. In a dry year some pools shrink and some jumps become unsafe. We check conditions the week you travel and tell you honestly what to expect rather than showing you a photograph from April.
Do I need to be able to swim?
For the pools, yes — they are deep and there is no shallow end at the better ones. Non-swimmers can still walk the gorge, sit on the ledges and enjoy the day, but they should not jump.
Is it suitable for children?
From around eight, with a parent, provided they are confident in water. The walk in is rocky rather than dangerous. Younger children find the scramble hard work.
Can I combine it with a surf session?
Yes — this is exactly how we schedule it for camp guests. Surf in the morning, drive inland after lunch. As a standalone day trip it runs longer and goes deeper into the valley.
