About Kitesurfing in Morocco
Morocco is a serious kitesurfing destination and the centre of it is not Taghazout. Essaouira and Dakhla are the names that matter — Essaouira for the reliable summer trade wind, Dakhla for the flat-water lagoon that draws riders from all over the world.
Essaouira blows hard from roughly April to September, a thermal north-easterly that is dependable enough to plan a week around, on a long sandy bay with schools along it. It is choppy and it is windy — more so than beginners expect — but it is consistent, and the medina behind it makes a better town to spend an evening in than most wind destinations.
Dakhla is a thousand kilometres south and a different trip entirely: a shallow warm lagoon, flat water, wind almost every day, and a scene built around it. Around Agadir and Taghazout the wind is less reliable and the emphasis stays on surfing, so a kite-focused week belongs in one of those two places rather than on the surf coast.

Kiters planning a dedicated trip, surfers adding a windy week, and beginners who want lessons somewhere the wind actually turns up.
What to check before you book
- The wind season for the spot — the same beach can be unusable in the wrong month.
- Whether equipment is included, and what condition and size range is available.
- The level required. Some sessions assume you can already water-start.
- Safety cover on the water, and the instructor's certification.
- What happens on a day with no wind, or too much of it.
