About Surf Coaching in Morocco

Coaching is what comes after lessons stop working. It assumes you can already surf — catch unbroken waves, make a bottom turn, get back out — and addresses why you have stopped improving, which is usually two or three specific habits rather than a general lack of practice.

The tool that makes it work is video. A coach films your session from the beach or the water, and the review afterwards is where most of the value sits: almost nobody is doing what they believe they are doing, and the gap between the two is invisible from inside the wave. Typical findings are unremarkable and hard to self-diagnose — late pop-ups, a back foot too far forward, looking at the board instead of down the line, paddling with the chest flat instead of the back arched.

A coaching week is structured differently from a camp week. Sessions are shorter and more deliberate, with a single thing to work on each time, and there is usually dry-land work on pop-up mechanics and paddling technique. Morocco suits it because the long right-hand points give you a rideable wall for hundreds of metres — enough time on one wave to actually attempt a correction, which a short beach break does not allow.

Who it suits

Intermediates who have plateaued, surfers with years of self-taught habits, and anyone who can already surf but cannot see why they are not getting better.
