Surf and spa in Morocco usually means the hammam, which is worth understanding before you book it: it is a public steam bath and a scrub, it is a social institution rather than a treatment, and it is not a quiet room with music.
The traditional version is hot, humid and brisk. You are washed with black olive-oil soap, left to soften, then scrubbed with a kessa glove by someone who does not stop early. It is the most effective thing available for muscles that have taken a week of paddling, and it costs very little outside the hotels. Camps that include it usually book the neighbourhood hammam rather than a spa.
The hotel version — argan oil massage, private rooms, mixed-gender, quiet — is a different product at a different price, and both appear on listings as "spa". The distinction matters, and the listing should make it clear which one you are getting. Most public hammams have separate hours or separate entrances for men and women.
Who it suits
Longer stays where recovery matters, anyone travelling in winter when the water is cold, and people who want one afternoon of the week that is not physical.
