About Surf & Diving in Morocco
This is the category to be honest about. Morocco is a world-class surf destination and it is not a world-class Atlantic dive destination — the water off Taghazout is cold, often surgy, and visibility is measured in a few metres rather than tens of them.
What does exist on the Atlantic side is limited and seasonal: some shore diving and a small amount of boat work out of Agadir and Essaouira, best in late summer when the swell drops and the water clears. Expect kelp, rock reef, octopus, conger and bream rather than reef fish and coral. It is a real dive, not a tropical one, and a 7mm suit is normal.
The Mediterranean coast is the other story entirely — Al Hoceima and the Marchica lagoon near Nador have clear, warm, sheltered water and a proper dive scene. That is a fourteen-hour drive from the surf coast, so a genuine surf-and-dive trip in Morocco is two trips, not one week. Any listing here that promises both in the same week from Taghazout is worth questioning closely.

Certified divers already coming for the surf who want a day underwater, and people planning a longer route that takes in the north coast as well as the Atlantic.
What to check before you book
- Coached hours per day, and how many people per instructor. Above eight to one you are being supervised rather than taught.
- What the room actually is. A dormitory bed and a private double are often quoted under one headline price.
- Which meals are included, and what happens on the days nobody drives to a spot.
- Whether transfers from the airport and to the surf are in the price or added later.
- The cancellation policy in writing, and what it says about weather.
