Morocco surprises people with cold water. The latitude suggests warm; the Canary Current does not deliver it. Water sits around 20-21C in late summer and drops to roughly 16-18C in January and February, which is a wetsuit year round.
The practical answer is a 3/2 from about May to October and a 4/3 from November to April, with boots rarely necessary and a hood almost never. People who feel the cold take the 4/3 a month earlier at each end. Air temperature misleads badly here: a 28C afternoon in October still has 20C water, and a dawn session in January is cold before you get in.
Rental suits get heavy use, so check the seals and the zip and try it on rather than taking the size on the label. Almost every camp includes a suit in the price — rent separately only if you are travelling independently, and ask what thickness they are actually handing out for the month you are there.
Who it suits
Independent travellers without a camp package, winter visitors who need thicker rubber than they own, and anyone whose own suit is not worth the baggage.
