About Surf & Yoga in Morocco
Surf and yoga is the most common pairing on this coast, and the reason is physical rather than spiritual: paddling is a shoulder and thoracic-spine movement that most people have never trained, and by day three of a surf week the limiting factor is almost never technique.
A typical week alternates — a morning session in the water, an afternoon on the mat, or the reverse depending on the tide. The yoga is usually vinyasa or hatha, taught on a terrace, and aimed at the shoulders, hip flexors and lower back rather than at anything advanced. Most camps in Taghazout and Tamraght run it daily and include it in the price; a few charge per class, which the listing should say.
What it changes is recovery. Surfing uses a small set of muscles hard and leaves the opposing ones short, and an hour of unwinding that between sessions is the difference between paddling on day five and watching from the beach. Nobody needs prior yoga experience for this — the classes on a surf camp are built for stiff beginners, not for practitioners.
Who it suits
Anyone booking five days or more, first-timers who expect to be sore, and travellers who want the week to have a shape beyond the two hours a day actually spent surfing.
